Saxophone over a house set at cocktail hour. Violin for the aisle. A percussionist riding on top of the DJ during the dance. Professional belly dancers timed to the peak of the sahra. And the zaffa drumline for the grand entrance. We program Arabic and other cultural music and movement into the set the same way we program English pop, because it belongs there, not as a novelty. For one couple, our violinist learned a traditional song from a recording her family sent so it could play as she walked down the aisle.
